Music for Bird Lovers
Suitable for young and old alike, Music for Bird Lovers, Ten Stories about Birds in their Native Habitats with Original Music by Carlie Burdett, is a soft-cover 8″x 8″ book containing a professionally orchestrated music CD, as well as piano sheetmusic.
The book includes close-up color pictures and stories about the antics of several familiar birds, as well as habitat maps, bird facts, and scientific names. The accompanying CD consists of an orchestrated recording of Carlie Burdett performing her ten whimsical piano pieces which inspired the bird stories. During the first ten tracks, Carlie’s granddaughter Hanna Pak narrates each story from the book as the music plays for its bird. Then, tracks 11 through 20 contain the same music without narration.
“I originally wrote these piano pieces for my teenage piano students. When, later, I would play them to entertain our young grandchildren, they would ask, ‘What’s the bird doing now?’ So, the stories grew to take on new dimensions, with the help of their imaginations. From the original music to its present published form, this project grew through a chain of events that has spanned some thirty years. The last improvement was the addition of our granddaughter Hanna Pak’s narration, which is heard with the music on the first ten tracks.”
A spiral-bound book of sheet music is available below, which includes the narrations with the piano score for the ten pieces.
Downloadable PDFs are also available below for each of the ten pieces. Each contains the piano score and the narration. Click on each bird picture to hear a sample of its music.
