Carlie’s Last Song to be Performed

Carlie wrote one last song in the days and weeks before her death. Carlie’s daughter, Dorie, knew that she was working on something in the hospital called “Echoes of Life.” After Carlie’s death, Dorie searched for the song and found it in the Notes app on Carlie’s phone, but she didn’t know how to read the short-hand musical references. So, Dorie took the notes to her neighbor and friend Dan Torosian, a professional musician, to help translate the mysterious numbers and letters into sheet music.

Only a few short days later, Dan confirmed that it was in fact a song and he sent the sheet music to Dorie – which felt like a a gift from beyond. Her mother’s last piece! Growing up, Dorie would run around the living room, dancing and playing, while her mom wrote, practiced, and played her original compositions. Dorie was her biggest fan! Now, some 40 years later, Dorie was staring at her mom’s last musical composition in black and white. Carlie never got the chance to play or hear her last piece outside of her own mind. And, no one has heard it as it was written, until now!

Years later, with the help of Dorie’s sister, Bliss, and professional musician Kylah Magee, “Echoes of Life” will be debuted at the KMFA Classical Radio Station studio at the Shapes in the Clouds fundraiser on May 14th, 2026, – an event raising money for art, nature, and music therapy.
